Joni Hedinger is a professional photographer and filmmaker who lives in Rapperswil, Switzerland, with his wife. The trained carpenter bought his first camera at the age of 22 and discovered his passion for photography among others through Instagram. Back in 2018, he decided to turn his passion into a career and has been working as a self-employed photographer ever since. With over 150,000 followers on Instagram, Joni is one of the most successful Swiss representatives of that young generation of photographers whose work virtually inspires a worldwide audience.

Since 2022, Joni Hedinger has taken an artistic direction in addition to commercial photography and his work is repeatedly represented at various exhibitions and in several magazines. As an artist, Joni has dedicated himself to portraying gripping landscapes. A creative and aesthetic image is more important to him than technical perfection. For the perfect picture and the ideal mood, he hikes many hours, repeatedly spending the night in the mountain, equipped only with sleeping bag and mat.

As a member of the Swiss photography collective The Alpinists, which now delights over 1.2 million followers on Instagram with spectacular mountain images, he is one of the authors of the collective's photographic hiking books Lost in the Alps and Lost in the Alps 2. The books have attracted attention beyond Switzerland's borders and helped the eleven young photographers achieve a successful impact outside of Instagram as well.

Joni Hedinger was an official Judge at the Redbull Illume 2023.
